In the world of high-horsepower machines, four-figure dyno runs are not guaranteed to bring impressive times or trap speeds, which means you don’t trust a car’s performance until you actually put it through its paces. Aftermarket developer English Racing does have faith in its 1,000 HP Evo X, but this doesn’t mean they skip the parts where the Lancer is being put to work.
The most recent example of such a hooning session took place at the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack, where the Mitsubishi was involved in half-mile racing.
The tuner had set itself a 200 MPH (322 km/h) target, and while they came just short of reaching it, nobody can complain about their trap speed - people tend to cut you some slack when you hit 198 mph (319 km/h) at the end of a half-mile sprint.
What about the technical setup? Let’s talk engine compartment contents
The four banger under the Evo’s hood was gifted with a Precision 7285 turbocharger. This helps the engine deliver 1,034 horses to the wheels, at least in the setup the Evo used for this particular event. With such setups, the boost pressure is easy to manipulate (given the engine has the right supporting mods), so you don't need to remember the exact figure.
As the video shows, the engine compartment of this Evolution is one of those places that can keep you staring at it for minutes in a row, without boredom kicking in.
Interestingly enough, this Evo uses a manual, so the driver had to work the competition clutch and row through the gears on his way to high velocity.
Then there’s the sheer soundtrack of the Japanese-designed, US-tuned machine. As you’ll be able to notice in the footage below, this Mitsu sounds a bit like a jet fighter as it’s idling on the runway, waiting to unleash its high-octane weapon.
