The E-suffix in the 2003 MY DR-Z400E's name introduces a most welcome addition to this otherwise complete off-road machine: electric starting. The base model of the DR-Z400 was equipped with kick starting only, but now Suzuki introduces this option for attracting even more customers.

Some say that an off-road bikes should have only kick starting because this would make it lighter, thanks to the absent battery, and would make the wiring loom simpler, easier to maintain and repair when needed. While this is of course, true, some less hardcore riders will definitely enjoy the convenience and ease of use of the electric starting system, and will not be bothered by the few extra pounds of the battery and starter motor.
