In 1988 Ducati started manufacturing the SuperSport, a series of air-cooled four-stroke Desmodromic motorcycles. The 750 Sport and 750 GT were used as a base for the first official SuperSport motorcycles, but featured bodywork style scooped from the Imola bikes. In 1992, a limited edition of the SuperSport was sold under the SuperLight name.

In 2016 at the Intermot, a new SuperSport was announced by Ducati that would be available in the spring of 2017. The SuperSport was available in two versions, SuperSport and SuperSport S.

The 2017 SuperSport borrowed the engine from the Hypermotard 939 but delivers the power lower in the rev range and has longer final drive gear ratios. The SuperSport uses a trellis frame and some similarities, but it’s configured as a relaxed sport bike.

The SuperSport is powered by a 937cc L-Twin Desmodromic liquid-cooled engine that delivers a power of 113 hp at 9,000 rpm and 96 Nm (71 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm and it’s paired with a six-speed gearbox.

The 2017 SuperSport model uses a tubular trellis frame attached to the cylinder head and weighs 184 kg (406 lbs).

In the suspension department, the bike uses a Fully adjustable 43mm USD Marzocchi fork on the front, a progressive linkage with an adjustable Sachs monoshock on the back, and an aluminum single-sided swingarm.

In terms of braking, the model uses two 320 mm discs on the front and one 245 mm disc at the back both featuring ABS. The Y-shaped three-spoke wheels are made from light alloy and wear a pair of Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires.
