DUCATI 888SP5 (1993-1994) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 1993, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati 888SP5, a fully faired sports machine and an advanced version of the standard 888 model. The bike was produced in 1993 in only 500 units.

The 1993 Ducati 888SP5 packed a higher-performance SPS engine with an SP4 cooling system that continued to set performance standards for twin-cylinder machines. It retained all the SP features, including twin injectors, con-rods, and a close-ratio gearbox.

Some modifications were brought to the chassis, including the replacement of the Ohlins fork with a Showa unit, bronze-finished frame and wheels, Termignoni carbon fiber mufflers, a fully-floating rear brake disc, and braided-steel brake lines.

In the aesthetic department, the 1993 Ducati 888SP5 packed standard features, such as a full fairing with a small windscreen, a rectangular headlight, a single seat, a dual exhaust system with a muffler on each side, and three-spoke lightweight wheels.

Underneath its fuel tank, the 1993 Ducati 888SP5 had an 888cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine with an electronically controlled fuel injection system in charge, delivering 116 hp at 10,500 rpm and 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) torque at 7,000 rpm.

The bike's engine was coupled to a six-speed manual transmission with a dry multi-plate clutch and a final chain drive, spinning the rear wheel to a top speed of 260 kph (162 mph).
