DUCATI 1000SS DS (2005-2006) Specs, Performance & Photos

The Ducati Supersport and SS was a series of sports bikes manufactured by Ducati from 1988, powered by an air-cooled four-stroke V-twin desmodromic engine. In 1992, the manufacturer launched a special edition machine named Ducati Super Light.

In 2005, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati 1000SS DS, a sports bike that debuted in 2003 alongside the 620cc and 800cc versions, replacing the 750cc and 900cc models.

The bike packed a fully electronic, lightweight instrument panel with two analog dials and two LCD display panels with speed and rpm, odometer and trip meter, low fuel indicator, service warnings, and oil temperature.

In the performance department, the 2005 Ducati 1000SS DS took its muscles from a 992cc four-stroke air-cooled V-twin engine fed by a fuel injection system, delivering an output power of 86 hp with a peak force at 7,750 rpm and 88 Nm (65 lb-ft) torque at 5,750.

The engine power was handled by a six-speed manual transmission with dry, multi-plate, hydraulic clutch and a final chain drive, pushing the bike to 230 kph (143 mph).

In the handling department, the bike was built on a steel Trellis frame, fitted with a 43 mm fully adjustable upside-down Showa fork on the front and a fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorber on the rear, offering excellent performance and handling.

The braking power was achieved by two 320 mm discs with four-piston calipers on the front wheel and a 245 mm disc with a dual-piston caliper on the rear wheel.
