DUCATI 1000SS DS (2004-2005) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 2004, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati 1000SS DS, an easy-to-handle machine with top-end performance coming from a dual spark fuel-injected Desmo engine fitted in an advanced Trellis frame.

The bike debuted in 2003 and came along with the 620cc and 800cc versions, replacing the 750cc and 900cc models that were both available with either full or half fairing. The SS DS model featured the most advanced air-cooled Desmo engine ever manufactured by Ducati.

In the appearance department, the bike packed a full fairing with a single headlight and a small windscreen, a one-piece dual seat with a passenger grab handle, an up-swept exhaust system, and lightweight five-spoke alloy wheels.

The bike's handling was operated by a 43 mm fully adjustable upside-down telescopic fork on the front and a fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorber on the rear, delivering top-of-the-line performance and handling.

In the braking department, the bike had a 245 mm disc with a dual-piston caliper on the rear wheel and four-piston calipers with two 320 mm discs on the front, offering excellent stopping power.

The 2004 Ducati 1000SS DS was brought to life by a 992 cc four-stroke air-cooled V-twin engine fed by an Electronically controlled fuel injection system, boasting 86 hp with a maximum peak force at 7,750 rpm and 88 Nm (65 lb-ft) torque at 5,750 rpm.
