BMW Motorrad released the BMW S 1000 RR in 2009 and was considered the best-equipped sport bike in the 1000cc category and the most powerful bike in the class ever built by BMW. Then in 2010, they released another model of the BMW S 1000 RR that was slightly revised in the performance department and remained the most powerful bike ever built by BMW.

In 2011, BMW released a new model of the S 1000 RR that remained unchanged, keeping the same engine, chassis, suspension, and livery but remains the most powerful motorcycle ever built by BMW at the time of its release.

The new 2011 Model has its heart set on the 999cc four-stroke liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine attached to a six-speed manual gearbox that produces a power of 193 hp at 13,000 rpm and 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) at 9,750 rpm. Opposed to the previous model, it came with standard Race ABS that could be used in tandem with the optional Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and the engine mapping to provide four riding modes, Rain, Sport, Race, and Slick.

The 2011 BMW S 1000 RR featured the same suspension as the older model, composed of a 46 mm USD fork on the front, a double swing arm with a central spring strut in the spring base, and adjustable inbound and rebound action.

The model was for sale in 2022, starting from $9,000.
