The BMW S 1000 XR was a sport-touring motorcycle that debuted in 2015. The bike was presented at the 2014 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy, while the production started on April 1 and went on sale on June 13.

The half-fired motorcycle was based on the BMW S 1000 R naked machine and was marketed as an Adventure Sports Bike. Also, the bike was the fourth model with a four-cylinder engine and was assembled at the BMW plant in Berlin.

In 2023, the German motorcycle manufacturer introduced the BMW S 1000 XR, an enhanced version of the long-distance sports bike with more power, better ergonomics, a more refined design, and more standard features.

The bike's rear section is now complemented by new side panels and air intakes inspired by motorsports, offering a more dynamic appearance. In addition, the radiator trim has a textured surface, and the beak is painted in body color instead of black.

The new BMW S 1000 XR featured an optimized Shift Assistant Pro system for higher precision, a new batter with more amperage, and three color schemes. Blackstorm Metallic, Gravitblue Metallic, and Lightwhite Solid Paint/ Motorsport.

In the performance department, the 2023 BMW S 1000 XR packs a 999cc four-stroke four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that delivers an output power of 170 hp with a peak force at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm (84 lb-ft) torque at 9,250 rpm.

In 2014, BMW Motorrad began to manufacture the BMW S 1000 R, a naked motorcycle that borrowed its engine, gearbox, frame, and suspension from the S 1000 RR superbike. In 2020 BMW released the new model in the S 1000 R range.

In terms of hardware, the new 2020 BMW S 1000 RR has a 999cc inline four-cylinder, oil-water cooled engine, that develops 165 hp (123 kW) at 11,000 rpm, and a torque of 114 Nm (84 lb-ft) at 9,250 rpm. It is also lighter than the RR by five kg (11 lbs). The new S 1000 R weighs 199 kg (439 lbs) and reaches an estimated top speed of 257 kph (160 mph). Also, the new 1000 R can reach 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 3.2 seconds.

For the first time as an optional extra, BMW equipped the S 1000 R with electronic drag torque control, which stops the wheel from slipping when too much force is applied to the throttle. Weight is a key factor in achieving more performance, so the chassis was trimmed down, and the swingarm is lighter than the one on the RR.

The new S 1000 R comes with three riding modes, Rain, Road, and Dynamic, all offered as standard.

In 2022 the 2020 BMW S 1000 R was for sale with prices ranging from $13,000 to $17,000.

The 2019 BMW S 1000 XR is a bike oriented for touring purposes. Design of the bike is made in order to achieve maximum comfort while keeping the sporty looks of the bike. It combines the upright seating position of the GS adventure bike while keeping the sportiveness of the S 1000RR version.

It is a bit lighter than the previous generation (around 10 kg – 22 lb), saving the weight in the frame construction, and in the engine department. Also a newer and more optimized engine (in-line 4 cylinder with 121 kW, which is around 165 hp) was fitted in, in order to achieve more power in the mid-range revs.

This bike also comes with 4 riding modes – rain, road, dynamic and dynamic pro. Each preset has fixed parameters for throttle response, engine brake, ABS control and traction control, except the dynamic pro mode, which lets you customize each module individually.

The standard spec BMW S1000 XR has DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), engine drag torque control (MSR), which reduces rear wheel hopping, ABS Pro for safer braking in a pinch situation and while banking, and hill start control. As extra options you get HP Shift Assistant Pro for quick up and down shifting without clutch, electronic cruise control, adaptive turning lights, dynamic ESA, heated grips, center stand and case holder.

In April 2008, the S 1000 RR was introduced in Munich, and one year later BMW released the bike with only one thing in mind, to compete in the 2009 Superbike World Championship.

To meet the World Superbike homologation requirements, in 2009 BMW manufactured one thousand units of S 1000 RR, and in 2010 expanded the production for commercial sales. In the 1000cc category the S 1000 RR was considered the best-equipped sports bike. The S 1000 RR was the first production motorcycle that was fitted with a quick shifter, meaning that it was not necessary to engage the clutch when shifting gears. The 999cc four-cylinder engine draws a red line at 14,200 rpm.

In November 2018 at EICMA, the S 1000 RR received a full model change for the upcoming year. The new 999cc engine was claimed to produce 204 hp (152 kW) at 13,500 rpm, and 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque. BMW used hollow-bored titanium intake valves and 25 percent lighter new DLC rocker arms, losing four kg (nine lb) and a compact external design. With all the modifications made to the bike, it brings it to a total of 197 kg (434 lb). For the 2018 S 1000 RR, the chassis has been renewed, targeting weight reduction and improved handling. The narrowed front fairing houses two symmetrical LED headlights and a cantered intake for optimal airflow.

For the first time for any BMW motorcycle, the M package was available, and with all the modifications the total weight is 193.5 kg (427 lb).
