BMW S 1000 R (2013-2014) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 2014, BMW Motorrad released the S 1000 R, a naked motorcycle based on the S 1000 RR. The new model has a detuned engine borrowed from the RR, which also shares the gearbox, frame, and suspension. For the S 1000 R model, the engineers from Motorrad increased the low and mid-range power and torque to provide the set-up for everyday use and sporty riding on the open road.

By redesigning cylinder head ducts, modifying cam profiles, and appropriately modifying the 999cc engine management, the engineers accomplished a maximum rpm reduced by almost 2,000 rpm, with a peak power reached at 11,000 rpm and a torque of 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) at 7.500 rpm.

Based on the RR chassis, the model has the proven aluminum alloy perimeter frame in which the engine is part of the structure. As on the RR, the suspension has a 46 mm upside-down telescopic fork with adjustable compression and rebound on the front, and a two-sided aluminum swingarm, with adjustable rebound damping.

In the braking department, the bike has two 320 mm floating discs, four-piston calipers on the front, and a 220 mm disc, one-piston caliper on the rear.

With the fuel tank filled, the model has a wet weight of 207 kg (456 lbs).
