The 2024 Buick Envision is the facelift of the model's second generation. The crossover SUV appeared on the market in 2014 as a vehicle destined for the North American and Chinese markets.
Buick, the self-claimed fastest-growing mainstream brand in the U.S. at the time of the announcement of the new model, hopes to keep the ball rolling with the release of the Envision and four other models throughout the year 2024.
General Motors has opted for a daring design for the Buick Envision as it borrows structural elements from the concept car Wildcat EV. The redesigned front grille and front fascia help the crossover SUV obtain a futuristic look.
The upgraded hood complements the design changes from the front part of the vehicle to provide a complete visual package. As a signature, a body-mounted emblem makes the Buick easily recognizable.
To complement the exterior upgrades, the 2024 Envision also has a refreshed interior that provides a new design for customers.
As the steps towards the future aren't only from an aesthetic point of view, the new Envision provides one of the most up-to-date navigation experiences available on the market, GM's Super Cruise. There are over 400,000 mapped miles of road in the US and Canada where drivers can use this hands-free driving assistance system.
Under suitable conditions and with an attentive driver, Super Cruise has the capability to allow hands-free operation of the vehicle. Working in conjunction with Adaptive Cruise Control, this advanced technology takes control of acceleration and braking, maintaining a driver-selected following distance when engaged and active. Thanks to Lane Change on Demand and Automatic Lane Change, even changing lanes is hands-free.
The 2024 Buick Envision represents a step in the modernization process of the brand and displays some of the best features offered to its customers. The automaker also hopes to keep the sales numbers raised through attractive vehicles with innovative technologies.
Buick completely redesigned the Envision for the 2021 model, and it looked more Mazdesque than any other car from its lineup. But that was not a bad thing.
The biggest market for Buick was the Chinese market. With that said, the design team had to make a car appealing for them, more than for the North-American market. The Asian design style was also appealing for Buick's home market, so designing a vehicle with those lines shouldn't be a problem.
Gone were the "eagle-eye" headlights on the 2021 model year for the Envision. The designers installed a new pair with cues that resembled those found in the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia. The grille lost the vertical slats in favor of the horizontal ones. Its overall look seemed to be like a new generation of the Opel/Vauxhall Captiva – Chevrolet/Holden Antara, which never made it in Europe since the German brand was sold to the PSA (Peugeot-Citroen group).
The car's interior featured a modern design, with a minimalist look for the dashboard. The horizontal layout for the 10" touch-screen infotainment unit tilted toward the driver brought a new design era for Buick. Under the screen, horizontally mounted vents divided the look between the dashboard and the center console. The sporty seats installed for the front passengers enhanced the car's sportier character.
At the time of its launch, the Buick Envision featured an engine carried over from its predecessor: a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that developed 252 hp. It was paired as standard to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Envision was available with either front- or all-wheel-drive.
The facelift for the first generation of the Buick Envision was launched in China in late 2017. In January 2018 it was showcased at the North American International Auto Show, for the U.S. market.
It was the premium sibling of the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox and it was addressed to first-time buyers of the American brand. The Buick adopted a range of names that began with EN letters. The smallest one was the Encore and the biggest one was the Enclave. The Envision sat right between them.
The overall shape of the black grille surrounded by a chromed rim mimicked the Buick shield. The eagle eye style of the headlights was a theme design for the brand. On the hood, there were two fake scoops closer to the cabin. The arched roofline and the tailgate formed an SUV-like shape. A middle road between a hatchback and an SUV. But despite the chromed lines here and there, it didn't inspire too much premium feeling.
Inside, things were better. Even if the car was built in China, it featured good attention to details. The man-made leather, the authentic stitches, and the faux-wood trims on the dash inspired an expensive vehicle. For the infotainment system, Buick chose an 8” touch-screen display, and it supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot was available via AT&T.
Under the hood, the Envision was offered with a choice of two gasoline engines, offered with different power outputs and mated to 6-, 7-, or 9-speed automatic gearboxes, with front- or all-wheel-drive systems.
The GM’s mid-level luxury brand, Buick, has experienced a company growth with the previous models, the Buick Encore and the Buick Enclave. Buick decided to produce a new crossover, the first one to sport an off-road driving mode.
It was launched on the Chinese market at first, and by 2016, the car was available in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Envision was powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine boasted 256 hp.
The exterior designed featured a waterfall grille, wing-style xenon headlamps and boomerang shaped LED daytime lights. At the rear, the Envision had large LED taillights and the already known curved rear glass that was seen on the Enclave and the Encore.
Buyers could choose between 5 exterior colors: Topaz Brown, Sky Purple, Snowy White, Glacier Silver and Pearl Black. The car was fitted with 19-inch aluminum alloys as standard.
The interior offered a luxury styling and practical features. The heated steering wheel was all wrapped up in leather as well as the door panels and the center armrest. The standard interior color was black, however, a few colors were offered for buyers to easily customize the cabin in the desired way.
The cabin was roomy and due to a long wheelbase, the legroom was more than enough even for the rear passengers.
As the rear seats were foldable, the load area increased to 1,550 liters.
