Volvo CEO to Head Ford Europe
Odell will replace John Fleming subsequent to the completion of the Volvo acquisition by Geely, a deal that should be closed by October. Fleming, who was named CEO of Ford Europe in 2005 and also received the Chairman title in 2008, will take the helm of the company’s global manufacturing and labor affairs operations.
Volvo was lead by Odell since October 2008, with the company entering a complex sales process and requiring extra efforts in order to survive during uncertain conditions. Before that, the executive served as vice president and chief operating officer for Ford of Europe.
The executive’s responsibilities will include supervision of production, sales and service for Ford brand vehicles in 51 individual markets, as well as Ford’s Export Operations & Global Growth Initiatives.
“Stephen did an outstanding job leading Volvo back to profitability and has a strong record of delivering results for Ford of Europe,” said Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally. “We are thrilled that he will be returning to lead Ford of Europe to build upon the tremendous foundation of great products and profitable growth we have in the region.”
Other management changes include the making of Ford Group’s vice president, Jim Farley, responsible for Ford’s global sales, marketing and aftersales services. Volvo’s chief financial officer Stuart Rowley will have the same responsibilities at Ford Europe subsequent to Volvo’s sale. In addition to that, the head of Ford Mexico Eduardo Serrano will lead Ford’s operations in Mexico and South America.
