BMW’s 1-Series Coupe-based ActiveE model was never intended to be a series production car, but more of a testbed for ‘green’ tech which we would get to see on regular BMW cars in years to come.
However, Massachusetts-based tuner Turner Motorsport have gotten their hands on an ActiveE, with the intention of improving it, in order to prepare for what will become an influx of EVs in need of a little ‘pepping-up’. The tuner has taken on this project to learn and be prepared to modify and improve future EVs successfully.

Being based on the 1-Series, the ActiveE is a good candidate for a sporty and fun EV, as it is rear-wheel drive and it benefits from BMW’s legendary chassis tuning. So far, the car has gained a lowered and stiffened suspension system, 18-inch wheels with sticky rubber from a 335i, as well as normal BMW black grilles.

Couple all these subtle mods with the removal of all ActiveE stickers, and we’re left with a very promising vehicle, which isn’t finished, yet, as they are looking on giving it a little bit more ‘go’ - a mod which may affect the car’s current maximum range, but with considerable performance gains, so we think it's worth it at least to try it out.

They have even found a role for steering wheel-mounted paddles, being used to dial the amount of regenerative braking up or down very easily. Why give up steering wheel-mounted paddles on an EV when they can be used for something else?
