This Is What a 900 HP McLaren Sounds Like [Video]
The drivetrain they've developed for the car is said to deliver instant torque. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine in the McLaren P1 is a new version of the familiar M838T unit, that has been significantly upgraded to optimise cooling and durability under the higher loads, McLaren said. This engine produces 737PS (727 bhp) at 7,500rpm, and 720Nm of torque from 4,000rpm all on its own, but is also helped by a electric motor that provides an additional 179PS (176 bhp), which also makes 260Nm instantly from a standstill, as much as a 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine would.
Combined, the two become a force to be reckoned with. Even though the McLaren shoots flames and sounds like it ate tigers for breakfast, it emits less than 200 grams per kilometer of CO2.
McLaren insiders have said the car is technically sold out at the moment, which leads us to believe customers are being allowed to drive these prototypes before the car is actually ready. Just today, two videos of the P1 in camo popped up virtually at the same time, one in Britain spotted by Shmee150 and this one in Barcelona, filmed by WillLillo.
