Last autumn we announced that the Japanese EV company Terra Motors were planning to build an electric trike we used to call the "tuk-tuk of the future". Well, the dream is over: this trike is now real!
The pre-production prototype has made its first public appearance and we might say it looks really cool. Its purpose is to become a cheap, environmentally-friendly transportation solution for emerging markets, such as the Philippines or Vietnam.
The Philippine government is said to have already commissioned 100,000 units and they're touted to offer a 50 km range (31 miles) for 5 passengers and a driver. Given the target markets, we expect the Terra Motors e-tuk-tuk to be available for very affordable prices.
Terra Motors has also announced they're also working on a new electric scooter due to be released this year. This scooter will be the this Terra Motors is manufacturing, and the first one to make it big on foreign markets.
