Tata Aria Launches Next Week

Indian manufacturer Tata Motors announced this week that the new crossover it has created, the Aria, will hit local dealerships on October 11. The model, the first crossover made in India, is expected to generate impressive sales.

“The Tata Aria, the first Indian crossover, will be commercially launched on October 11, 2010. It will be made available across all major cities and towns of the country," the carmaker said.

Created over a period of four years and presented at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show, the model is powered by a 2.2l Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) diesel engine, which has an output rated at maximum 140 PS and 320 Nm of torque.

It is equipped with several high end features, including a 3D surround system, dimming roof lamps, in-dash GPS with infotainment system, multifunctional steering wheel, dual arid conditions with automatic climate control and cruise control.

"A team of over 150 individuals, comprising multi- discipline specialists from the Tata Motors Group and vendor- partners, worked on the project to create this segment- defining crossover," Tata Motors said in a proud statement.

Because the model comes very well equipped in terms of safety (6 airbags, ESP, dual zone collapsible steering and stiffened body cage), the crossover is also considered a prime suspect for the projected Tata expansion into Europe.

The model is expected to be part of the Indian push into foreign markets which starts with the UK in spring 2011. The British market will be followed by several others across the Old Continent in the year to come. Other Tata models, including the Nano, are also planned to be exported.
