Subaru U.S. Recalls 1,585 Tribecas Due to Door Latch Issue

Subaru U.S. has initiated a recall, targeting 1,585 model 2010 Tribeca SUVs that have a door latch issue.

The front door latch cables on the aforementioned vehicles have been installed in the wrong position during the car’s production process, and now the vehicles’ front doors might be accidentally opened when the passenger operates the front windows. This might happen as a cable can catch in the door glass regulator and may unlatch the door.

Not only can the passengers be ejected due to a sudden door opening, but the event might distract the driver and eventually lead to a crash which can also involve other vehicles. In addition to that, the jamming of the cable may lead to a door latch failure, making the front doors impossible to open.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the vehicles’ owners have been notified, as a recall campaign has already started. Subaru dealers will fix the door latches free of charge. Owners can contact Subaru (via a free line) and the NHTSA.

The current version of the Tribeca was introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show and is a facelift for the 2005 model. It is powered by a 3.6 liter petrol engine that delivers 258 hp at 6,000 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, while returning a fuel consumption of 20.2 mpg for the combined cycle, 14.5 mpg for the urban cycle and 26.1 mpg for the highway cycle. The unit pushes the 4146 lbs SUV past the 62 mph mark in 8.9 seconds and gives it a top speed of 123.6 mph.
