A few months ago, BMW revealed the X4 in concept form at the Shanghai Motor Show. However, that was just a thinly disguised production car with bigger wheels and more chrome, very close to the actual vehicle.
The only major difference here is that this prototype previews something which you might actually be able to buy because it's not a top-spec xDrive35i.
The X4 is based on the X3 and will share all of its engines and mechanical components. The only difference is that it has sacrificed some of the practicality for a new fastback look.
It will be ideal for the younger buyers who wanted the X6 and couldn't afford it or put up with the fuel bills.
As with the X3, the X4 will be produced in Spartanburg. Expect a full reveal late this year, followed by a market launch in early 2014.
