Volkswagen is ready to bring out the seventh generation of their most potent market tool, the Golf. The new C-class contender will be based on the MQB modular platform and will be a bit longer and wider than before.
The new platform will be some 100 lbs (50 kg) lighter than before. Under the bonnet will be a generation of more efficient engines in both direct-injected petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) forms. The most talked about engine is the .4-litet with cylinder deactivation, but the future could hold a plug-in and a hybrid version of the Golf.
Rumor has it that the Golf GTI will have as much as 260 horsepower, which is encouraging for the fans. Whatever the case, the new people’s car is set to be unveiled towards the end of 2012.
