While European engineers are working on the mid-life facelift of all the current Dacia models, their counterparts from Argentina have begun work on the Dokker van, which will enter production there some time in the following year.
In case you don't already know what the Dokker looks like, here is a video from CarDrive Cordoba showing it in Argentina. From the back, not much has changed. However, the front end features an entirely different grille design.
The same thing happened to the Sandero and Logan when they went into service as South American Renault models. Of course, the engines will be changed as well. In place of the European 1.5-liter turbodiesel, the Argentinean car will likely feature a 1.6-liter petrol engine that runs on ethanol.
Based on the M0 platform, the Dokker shares many components with the Sandero and will be built on the same assembly line. Renault officials have hinted it will act as a direct replacement for the current Kangoo model.
However, reports suggest it will actually be marketed as the Kangoo II. In Europe, both models are sometimes sold by the same showrooms. While they are roughly the same size, the Kangoo can be twice as expensive.
To save money, Dacia made the Dokker a bit like the old Skoda Roomster (went out of production). The front half is similar to that Lodgy 7-seater, while the tall rear is designed to swallow 800 liters of luggage or a standard Euro pallet. As you can see from the video, Argentina will get both the regular 5-seat version and the 2-seat panel van model.
Dacia Dokker is a cheap workhorse, which will help you do your business during the day, and after hours, it will take you or your family shopping. If you'd like to know more, we suggest reading our review of the Dokker Stepway.
