The new Opel Astra in hatchback guise might be fresh out the oven and ready to debut in Frankfurt, but Opel are not going to sleep on the laurels just yet.
Russelsheim-based carmaker Opel will introduce the 2015 Astra Sports Tourer during this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, in an attempt to address the needs of those who put family first when buying a car.

There's not much we can tell you in terms of design without stating the obvious, that's why we kindly ask you to use the photo gallery for a better picture of the tourer's looks.

Practicality

The model's boot capacity was increased by 80 liters compared to the old wagon, which means that with the rear seats folded down, the 2015 Astra wagon offers up to 1,630 liters of cargo space.

Passenger comfort was also taken into consideration. Therefore, new Opel Astra Sports Tourer serves those sitting inside with an additional 26 mm of headroom in the front and 28 mm of headroom at the back.

Since we've mentioned the folding rear seats, you should also know they can be split 40/20/40. But if that's not enough, Opel can provide you with the FlexOrganizer package, which basically lets you better organize stuff using cargo nets, side rails, and fasteners.

Just like its hatchback brother, the Astra Sports Tourer shed 200 kilos (441 lbs) off its hips. Furthermore, Opel tells us that "the entry-level Astra Sports Tourer weighs 1,263 kilograms (including driver) and is thus 130 kilograms lighter than the comparable outgoing model."

Under the hood

The new Astra Sports Tourer can be animated by engines with power output varying between 95 to 200 horsepower, with a displacement range of 1.0 and 1.6 liters.

The engine lineup's star is no doubt the 1.6-liter ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo mill, a new unit developed by Opel, capable of delivering 200 horsepower and 300 Nm (221.2 lb-ft) of torque, with overboost.

We'll see the car in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show, so stay tuned for more on-the-spot impressions.
