Forget premium SUVs, forget hybrid technology and don't even think about about overcomplicated twin-clutch gearboxes. If you just want something practical, capable and above all German, this new Touareg model should be perfect. Volkswagen has just unveiled a brand new addition to the facelift range, a 3-liter TDI V6 that not only delivers a punchy 262 PS, but also returns better fuel consumption.
The power output represents a visible increase over the previous generations of EU5 diesels, which produced only 245 PS. Due to aerodynamic improvements and a coasting feature that disconnects the V6 engine from the 8-speed gearbox, the Touareg's fuel consumption has dropped from 7.2 to 6.6 liters per 100 kilometers (combined, equivalent to an increase from 30 to 43 mpg UK). CO2 emissions have also been lowered to 174 grams per kilometer. There's also a cheaper base model V6 that has the same fuel consumption but delivers only 204 PS. Both powerplants integrate Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which uses AdBlue to lower CO2 emission.

Available starting in October, the Touareg TDI facelift is going to be available with Air Suspension. In offroad conditions, this can increase the ground clearance by up to 300mm (12 inches). Meanwhile, at highway speeds (140 km/h and above) the air suspension automatically lowers the vehicle’s body, giving you better handling.

Small cosmetic changes have also been made, both at the front and the rear of the Touareg, which is now fitted with bi-xenon headlights as standard.
