Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC Now Comes with ECO Start Stop

Mercedes-Benz today announced that the S 350 BlueTEC is receiving the ECO Start Stop function as a standard feature, with the premium eco-friendly saloon now offering an even higher level of efficiency.

The 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine used by the vehicle, which produces 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque, now returns a fuel efficiency of 6.2 liters per 100 km (37.9 US mpg). We have to mention that, without the new system, the powerplant returns a fuel efficiency of 6.8 liters per 100 km (34.6 US mpg). The unit uses BlueTec with AdBlue exhaust treatment, which allows it to meet the Euro VI emission standard - it only emits 164 grams of CO2 per km (down from 177g/km).

In addition to that, the engine uses the TWAS (twin-wire-arc-sprayed) coating technology, which allows it to cut weight by 4.3 kg and increase efficiency by around 3 percent.

The increase in efficiency was also achieved, among other things, through the use of TWAS(twin-wire-arc-sprayed) coating technology. AMG has been using TWAS coating technology since 2005 in the 6.3-litre V8 in all model series, including the new SLS. Based on the positive experiences gained, Mercedes has now also developed this technology further for diesel engines. It is currently being introduced in the new Mercedes V6 diesel engine,” stated the press release, explaining the company's connection with this technology.

The Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTec comes with the same price, which means that if you want this green luxury ride to be a part of your garage, you’ll have to pay EUR76,517 (USD110,600 at the current exchange rates).
