The company will produce only 75 units of the car, Mercedes said in a statement published in mid-December. In addition, the German automaker already announced the limited production is scheduled to end in December 2009.
“This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a legitimate bearer of the name of the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars from victory to victory in 1955,” Mercedes said in a statement released to the press.
The SLR Stirling Moss will be powered by a V8 compressor engine that produces a maximum power of 650 hp, with a 0-100 km/h sprint done in 3.5 seconds. Maximum speed is rated at 350 km/h (around 217.5 mph). The limited edition model will be available for a selected number of McLaren SLR clients, with each unit to be sold at a shocking price of 750,000 euros.
“The core values of both the historical and the present-day SLR models include an exciting new design, innovative technology, high-class materials displaying perfect craftsmanship, and, above all: a unique driving experience for all the senses,” Mercedes reviewed some of the most important attributes of the newly-announced car.
