The BMW 1-Series M Coupe is a fan loved by its purist fans, and looks set to become a future classic. The car is a bit like M cars of old, offered only with a manual gearbox and a stiff chassis setup borrowed from the M3.
We already know that the 1M stands out in a world of endless squishiness where the suspension on a luxury car comes with infinite settings. And while M3 can come out of the factory gate equipped with equipped with electronic dampers, the 1M doesn’t. Some might say that’s a good thing. But once you drive the car and fall in love with it, you start dreaming of putting more every day usability into it.

Thus, the suspension specialists at KW came up with a solution to this problem in the form of the new i-Phone coilover suspension kit for the BMW 1-Series M Coupe.

The company has adapted the Dynamic Damper Control Electronic Control Unit to be used in combination with a special app they provide free of charge with the kit. This is compatible with any Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod, leaving you the choice of three models “Comfort”, Sport” and “Sport+”.

In addition, up to five of your own setups can be stored in the KW DDC App, which allows you to control each damper individually. You can even share the setup via email with a friend, which sounds ideal for track use.

In Comfort mode, the suspension offers the softness that the 1M Coupe normally lacks. The dampers control unit reads data from the car, so it’s able to adjust harshness depending on the car’s speed. In the Sport mode, the systems work harmonically, while in Sport+ it more similar to the factory M setup.
