Forget everything you learned while sitting on you back fixing your car and changing the oil, cars are all about apps now, and while the trend was off to a slow start at first, automakers are now realizing they need to spend big to win big in the advertising industry.
And what better car to showcase using the advantages of apps than the new Volkswagen Beetle, a car that stands a good chance of selling as well as the MINI Cooper back about a decade ago.
VW Canada has released a dedicated app called VWJuicedUp (a clear Beetlejuice reference?) that aims to make a billboard look as fun as a commercial when you point you iPhone or iPad at it.
The app that’s available for free download from the iTunes App Store is compatible with the iPhone, the 4th generation iPod, and the iPad 2. After you’ve juiced up your the device, just point it toward ads that have a black frame around them and let the magic happen.
