Italian media seems to have found a lead on the status of the contract 2-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo is about to sign with his current team, Yamaha. The last weeks have been full with various rumors, out of which the most credible was that Lorenzo was interested in a 1+1 deal for the next season, and was eyeing to dress the red leathers of Ducati.
Now, only he and his manager know whether this was the truth or just smoke and mirrors to downplay Yamaha’s offers and get a better deal. Fact is that motoblog expects that an official announcement will be made this very afternoon, just before the habitual Thursday evening press conference ahead of each round.

The same sources mention that Lorenzo has inked a solid 2-season deal with the house of Iwata, with a rumored paycheck of €6 mil ($8 mil) per season. While the length of the contract will definitely be revealed, the Mallorcan’s salary is a much more delicate matter, and some spies will most likely have to be involved to find more about the subject.

Jorge Lorenzo is the last of the factory riders to confirm a deal for the upcoming season(s). His team mate Valentino Rossi was already offered a two-season deal extension he gladly accepted, while Honda preferred to be the first factory team who inks a new 2-season deal with its young star Marc Marquez, followed a little later by the same offer for Dani Pedrosa.

Ducati has secured the services of Andrea Dovizioso weeks ago, and until the end of July, Cal Crutchlow also declared he would spend one more year at the helm of the Ducati GP14 machine. However, a very good last-minute offer from Honda’s satellite team LCR made him change his mind and leave the Italian team. His bike went to Ducati’s young Pramac rider Andrea Iannone who was already in a sort of factory rider position, with the Borgo Panigale team considering a three works bike setup for 2015.

It is no secret that Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall’Igna has approached Jorge Lorenzo and offered him a deal the Spaniard turned down, most likely because of the complete lack of certitude as far as the competitiveness of the Ducati machinery was concerned. Paddock whispers say that Ducati has not abandoned the idea and is in fact now waiting for 2017, with high hopes of Dall’Igna’s new bike to bring back the past glory in the red paddocks…
