Italian Husqvarna Plant Shuts Down, Production Moves to Austria
Husqvarna's former PR officer Martino Bianchi confirmed that the production will be transferred to Austria, in one of KTM's plants. Since the details of Husky's acquisition from BMW are still unknown, we can only speculate that there were some paragraphs related to the future of the plant near Varese and the 200+ workers, now laid off.
It's yet another grim period for Husqvarna, a brand which has never been able to regain the old glory it had back in it's country of origin, Sweden. Husqvarna moved to Italy in after being bought by the Castiglioni brothers of Cagiva fame, then sold to BMW six years ago.
Though at first only rumored, BMW finally let go of Husqvarna in favor of Stefan Pierer and one of his companies, Pierer Industries AG. The present development of this business seems to explain why BMW wanted Husky off their portofolio, but the future is very cloudy...
