Oh my! Just two days ago the NHTSA announced that the 2015 Hyundai Sonata needs more sturdy front brake calipers, the second recall after the sedan was previously called back over a faulty wiring harness. This time around, older cars are affected.
Namely, the transmission shift cable is prone to detach from the shift lever pin. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration informs that if that happens, the transmission gear selection may not match with the indicated gear. Imagine how it would be to be stuck in drive when the car is running.
The risk of a crash is highly probable in that nasty situation. Moreover, is the cable snaps when the driver comes to a standstill and tries to select 'Park', the transmission may act up and still be in 'Drive', translating to a roll away if the parking brake hasn't been applied. Now comes the damage: no less that 883,000 Hyundai Sonata sedans from the 2011 to 2014 model years make up this campaign.
Hyundai Motor America will notify owners, but the manufacturer didn't provide a schedule for that. So if you own a Hyundai Sonata built between December 11th, 2009 and May 29th, 2014, we recommend to get in touch with your local dealer or contact customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Just don't forget to tell the operator that the number for this recall is 123.
