While the seventh-generation Hyundai Sonata is a good piece of personal transportation kit for its low $21,150 starting MSRP, the South Korean mid-size sedan is recalled for an issue with the brake calipers.
This is the second recall for the model which was previously called back over a faulty wiring harness affecting the power steering and gearbox.

This time around, an estimated 5,650 units of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata are being pulled back because the brake pedal "went to the floor at stops." At least one owner brought his vehicle back to the dealership claiming the aforementioned issue. After a proper investigation, the dealer found that one of the calipers had fractured, decreasing the car's stopping power.

Subsequently, a bigger investigation was green lighted and the results tell that some 2,256 front calipers manufactured in a single day are prone to fracture because of an issue with the casting process. That error has an effect on the calipers' resistance, rendering affected units more fragile than usual.

As a consequence to that, Hyundai Motor America needs to inspect all Sonatas produced over a 7-week span between April and June, 2014, and replace the fracturing calipers. Affected customers are urged to call Hyundai Motor America at 800-633-5151 for further details.
