Introduced earlier this year, the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition is a commemorative model of the all-new pony limited to just 1,964 units. As if these cars won’t be rare enough, the final version to roll off the assembly line will be a truly model that will be converted into a pace car and auctioned off for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction.
No. 1,964 of the 1,964 planned limited-edition Mustangs will stand out even more from other 50 Year Limited Edition coupes with a distinctive pace car package and the signatures of many Ford executives. This car will be unveiled on September 12th before heading to the auction in Las Vegas, which runs from September 25-27.

Before the winning bidder takes delivery of their car, though, it will be used as the pace car for the Ford EcoBoost 400, NASCAR’s season finale race at the Homestead-Miami Raceway on November 16. In addition to the actual car, the lucky (and wealthy) individual will also receive a VIP package to the race including airfare, hotel, two VIP tickets and the chance to take hot laps in their car by one of Ford’s NASCAR drivers.

Proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Get Your Heart Racing program put on by the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Hospital, which is one of the nation’s top centers for heart and vascular disease. Earlier this year, Get Your Heart Racing raised $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach by auctioning off the one-of-a-kind Mustang used in the movie Need for Speed.

The Get Your Heart Racing program has become our biggest annual fundraiser, and everybody who participates seems to love it. With the help of our sponsors – especially Ford Motor Company – we’re looking to 2014 to be our biggest and best year yet,” said Sandy Hudson, chief development officer, Henry Ford Hospital.

As for the car itself, the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition is based on the all-new Mustang GT with its 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 cranking out 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. Available in either Wimbledon White or Kona Blue, the 50 Year Limited Edition also includes special touches like the chrome-trimmed taillights, louvered rear quarter windows and plenty of serialized identifying badges.
