Aston Martin has confirmed a 200 million pound investment in Wales, where it will open its second manufacturing facility.
The second Aston Martin factory was initially planned for the United States of America, but the Brits have decided to keep things local and invested in a manufacturing center in St Athan, Glamorgan.

The first Aston Martin that will be built in Wales is the brand’s new crossover vehicle, anticipated by the DBX Concept.

Thanks to a second manufacturing facility, the main factory in Gaydon can focus on the next generation of sports cars. Among them, Aston Martin will also make the all-electric RapidE. This model will be built in Gaydon starting 2018.

Aston Martin’s efforts in manufacturing will lead to the creation of 1,000 jobs in the UK, across Gaydon and St Athan, between now and 2020. So get that engineering degree going if you want to work for the Brits.

If you do not get to be one of the 1,000 Aston Martin employees, you might still have a shot at a new workplace with one of the 3,000 jobs opening up at suppliers and local businesses, which will be created to cater to the needs of the two Aston Martin factories.

Aston Martin’s second manufacturing center will take up around 90 acres and will re-purpose some existing facilities in the area. These buildings are currently in use by the Ministry of Defense, so their sturdiness is evident, and so is their access to logistics, a key factor for a carmaker. Aston Martin estimates that 90% of production in St Athan will be exported to other markets.

The company made a detailed evaluation of over 20 potential global locations for their new manufacturing facility. Eventually, the Welsh Government team won them over with their focus on quality, cost, and speed.

Furthermore, Aston Martin gets to keep making cars in the United Kingdom, maintaining a 103-year-old tradition. Things like these are best left alone instead of cost-cutting to the nickel. Few brands are still making cars only in their native country, as this is often an expensive feat and brings massive costs when it comes to exports.

In over fourteen years, he got behind the wheel of several hundred vehicles and in the offices of the most important car publications in his homeland.
