Volvo's revolution started with the XC90, winner of awards and praise from customers. After that came its sedan and wagon cousin, and they will be followed by all-new D-segment models, probably starting with the S60 in late 2017.
The company CEO has been talking up a storm, revealing details of possible plug-in hybrid powertrains and the use of 1.5-liter engines.

We're more concerned with how the thing will look. After all, the Volvo brand is just as much supported by its design as Audi. That's why we paid close attention to the finer details of this rendering by Remco M.

He incorporated the design language of the latest studies, as well as features from the S90. You know what? We like it a whole lot more than its big brother. You can almost imagine it parked next to your modern house, made from steel, glass, and recycled wood.

While the more complex design makes this a less spacious car than old Volvos used to be, the LED-everything attitude makes up for this.

With a shorter body, it might feel a little more play full than the S90, which feels like it's sacrificed too much for the sake of autonomy and fuel economy. Engine-wise, we don't expect any big surprises, as Volvo has already had to develop a full lineup of 2-liter units for the 90-series.

One of our favorites is the latest D5 powertrain, similar to the BMW 25d regarding output. Instead of relying just on the turbochargers, engineers fitted an air compressor to give it a lot more boost off the line.

For the gasoline fans, the Swedish automaker has a 320 horsepower 2-liter turbo that's both supercharged and turbocharged.

If you're new to the Volvo brand and don't know what an S60 is, think of it as a Subaru Legacy that's made in the same place as your Ikea furniture, figuratively speaking, of course. It's an indirect rival to everything from the VW Passat to the BMW 3 Series.
