The toughest Toyota of them all is about to get a facelift for the 2017 model year and - drum roll - this is the scallawag. Instagram user hamad1two3 is the source of the adjacent leaked pics and, from the looks of it, the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser facelift is going upmarket both inside and outside.
It’s been 8 long years since the Land Cruiser J200 started production, but what you’re looking at here isn’t an all-new generation. While other automakers come with a brand new generation in that timeframe, the Land Cruiser will have to soldier on as a mid-cycle update. It’s pointless to complain though as the facelift preserves the rough, tough and ready for the mucky stuff persona of the current-gen Land Cruiser.

For the 2017 model year (2016 Toyota Land Cruiser in the EU), the Japanese automaker gave the 200 Series off-road all-star some botox and a nose job. The squarish headlights of yesteryear have been swapped for modern-looking units. The LED-accented clusters are traversed by bits of chrome that extend from the similarly bottomed front grille. Other highlight modifications with the front fascia include the new-style fog lights and the pumped up yet stylish front bumper.

Around the rear, a chrome horizontal bar unifies the reverse lights. A mildly restyled trunk door and rear bumper, as well as modernized taillights and a sculpted hood round off the exterior goodies brought by 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser mid-cycle update. Once you step inside, you’ll see that designers meddled with the design of the central air vents. Engineers then worked their magic by adding an all-new infotainment system, a center stack with fewer buttons and more 4-by-4 control buttons on the big transmission tunnel.

As you can see in the second photo of the gallery, there’s a V8 badge adorning the trunk door. That means the capable offroader pictured below utilizes a revised 5.7-liter V8 motor that will deliver at least 389 horsepower and 403 lb-ft (546 Nm) of torque to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. So, will it be this dune runner or the posher LX 570 cousin with Lexus badging and a unified spindle grille?
