It's funny how time changes everything. When the Toyota GT 86 was launched over three years ago, it was viewed as an honest back-to-basics fun car. But it's also become a darling of the tuning scene, with people adding parts that are just for the show.
This particular coupe has to be one of the weirdest we've ever seen. It's called the "Zero Fighter" and was filmed by RTC Manga at the annual Cross Fire gathering in Fukuoka. Let's run through the mods.
First of all, a widebody kit from Greddy has been added. This includes bolt-ons for the front and rear wings, side skirts and bumper inserts. They also added a race-style ducktail rear wing and another spoiler on the roof.
There are some retro add-ons as well. For example, the wheels and mirrors on the bonnet remind us of the classic Corollas. As for the interior, this has been infused with the spirit of the divine wind. The dash is covered in the colors of the Japanese flag over which a squadron of Mitsubishi Zero fighters flies.
After that, all you see is red leather everywhere and in the trunk there are three scale models of the aircraft. Who needs storage space when you have an awesome car? We have no idea why this GT 86 has the steering wheel on the left while driving in Japan, a RHD market, but it just adds to the character of the car.
Our favorite feature though is the paintjob. At a time where wraps are popular, this Toyota has all its details done by hand, and there are a lot of them. The skeleton spirits of the dead Zero pilots reside on the hood and doors, joined by those famous red circles, a national symbol in Japan.
The Japanese flag is a white rectangle with a large red disc in the middle, representing the sun. This flag is officially called Nisshoki ( "sun-mark flag") in Japanese but is more commonly known as Hinomaru. So now that you know all that, we invite you to check out the video.
