The Maserati Quattroporte is the automotive equivalent of La Dolce Vita in the full-size sedan segment. With the advent of the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, sexy just got sexier. As it’s often the case with sexy things, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes down to this fellow.
Before anything else, take a minute of your time and admire the thing. It finger-licking delicious, isn’t it? The model on the left, the one painted in blue, is the GranLusso. This particular trim level is immediately recognizable thanks to the elegant-looking front fascia, chrome detailing on the bumper, cleaner design of the rear end, 20-inch Mercurio lightweight alloy wheels, and black-painted brake calipers.

The model on the right, the one adorned in white, is christened the GranSport and the name of the game here is sportiness. Starting with the 21-inch Titano wheels and the black-painted front lip spoiler, the GranSport treatment also includes bigger air intakes at the sides of the front bumper. At the rear, the sporty trim level of the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte boasts a honking aerodynamic diffuser and two side pockets that incorporate trapezoidal exhausts, which remind me of certain AMG products.

As anyone would expect, the Quattroporte GranLusso is laden with leather and open-pore wood. The Quattroporte GranSport, on the other hand, blends Piano Black wood with carbon fiber and leather to create a go-faster environment for the driver. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the Maserati Touch Control 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit has been updated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring functions. But wait, there’s more to be told.

Opt for the package that reads Advanced Driver Assistance System and you get the following goodies: Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist, Automated Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go. A 360-degree surround view camera system is available as an option only if the customer already opted for the above-stated package.

The biggest news regarding the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, however, is that it’s 10 percent more aerodynamic than the pre-facelift. This comes courtesy of the revised styling, as well as something called the Air Shutter. Fitted right between the front grille’s air vents and the radiator, the Air Shutter system is nothing more than your typical active grille shutters, something even the Ford Mustang EcoBoost boasts with in its quest to reduce aerodynamic drag and keep the engine cool.

Speaking of engines, nothing much has changed under the hood of the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte. For what it's worth, the 3.0 twin-turbo V6 is now available with 350 PS (345 bhp), thus enabling a maximum speed of 168 mph (270 km/h) and a sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) of 5.5 seconds. In S and S Q4 versions, the 410 PS (404 bhp) variant of the 3.0 twin-turbo V6 can hit 178 mph (286 km/h). As for the 530 PS (523 bhp) 3.8 twin-turbo V8 of the Quattroporte GTS, this tower-of-power goes all the way to 192 mph (310 km/h).

The increase in top speed also applies to the 3.0 V6 diesel engine, which is able to propel the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte to velocities of 156 mph (252 km/h) for the 275 PS (271 bhp) version and 150 mph (242 km/h) for the 250 PS (246 bhp) version.
