That’s right, ladies and gents! The station wagon is far from being dead in the United States. Despite the rising popularity of SUVs and crossovers, Audi has decided to bring the extremely capable A4 allroad quattro in North America. It's not cheap, though.
At $44,950 for the 2017 Audi A4 allroad quattro Premium, isn’t just more expensive than the preceding model year. It’s more expensive than the A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid and Q5 crossover, for that matter. Be that as it may, Audi A4 allroad quattro customers do get a lot of bang for the buck.
Other than the rough & tough exterior design, quattro all-wheel-drive system with ultra technology, adaptive dampers, and the increased ground clearance, the A4 allroad quattro boasts a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, and lots of underbody protection. Other highlights include power front seats, the large MMI display, smartphone mirroring through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and lots of active and passive safety systems.
A 7-speed S tronic transmission and a 2.0-liter TFSI engine make up for the only powertrain combo available in the United States for the 2017 Audi A4 allroad quattro. The four-cylinder mill produces 252 horsepower and a maximum of 273 lb-ft (370 Nm), which is not bad at all for a 2.0-liter engine.
As expected, the get-up-and-go is pretty good: 5.9 seconds to 60 mph (96 km/h). That is chuffing fast for a longroof with seating for five and their luggage. Alright, it’s not a 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon, but still, the Merc is in a totally different league in terms of size, price, and performance.
Other than the Premium, the A4 allroad quattro will be available in two more forms: Premium Plus ($47,950) and Prestige ($52,350). EPA estimates are not available at the time of publication. Over in the Old Continent, however, the A4 allroad quattro with the 2.0 TFSI is rated 7.9 l/100 km city, 5.6 l/100 km highway, and 6.4 l/100 km combined. Converted to U.S. gallons, that'll be 29.7 mpg city, 42 mpg highway, and 36.7 mpg combined.
