The eight generation Toyota Hilux has been spied, at long last, without a single bit of camouflage on it. Three months ago, the Japanese manufacturer announced that the all-new model will first debut in Thailand and guess what: the adjacent pics were snapped in the Asian country.
Before unraveling the technicalities, Terranismo highlights that export deliveries are slated to begin “by the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016.” The production-ready 2016 Toyota Hilux in the first four photos of the adjacent gallery boasts with the manufacturer’s “Keen Look” design language that we first saw on the Toyota Corolla (E170).
Slim, slightly swept back HID headlights joined by slimmer strips of LED daytime running lights are flanking the shiny chrome four-bar front grille. On the current Toyota Corolla, we’re dealing with a grille that integrates just three chrome bars and one made of black plastic. Compared to the 7th generation Hilux, the new kid on the block boasts beefier fender, joined by chromed door handles and mirror caps.
An interesting detail we can identify from looking at these spy photos from Terranismo is the longer rear doors. If anything, we’re hoping that this detail equates to better legroom for the rear passengers. Moving on to what’s on the inside, a touchscreen display that doesn’t appear to be unitary with the center console is the pivotal point of the cabin. The HVAC unit’s controls seem shoddy though.
On the oily bits front, Asian and European markets should look forward to twopowerplants . The first is a 2.4L turbo diesel with 148 HP (111 kW) or 165 HP (123 kW). As for the second means of propulsion, a 2.8-liter twin-turbo oil burner rated 175 HP (130 kW) is the name of the game. In terms of cog-swapping , 5 and 6-speed manuals are joined by a 6-speed Sequential Shift automatic transmission.
