It’s been more than once when I ranted against the fact the nowadays marketing is literally mocking terms such as “adventure”, “compromise” and other similar ones which are obviously meant to trick the mind and fool the hand into signing the check for a new bike. A bike which is advertised in a very smart, yet deceiving way as being capable of doing what it definitely can’t, or at least it can do only in a marginal manner.
It’s the case of the new special edition Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS, pretentiously dubbed “No Compromise”. Truth be told, these are pretty big words, and a guy for whom riding past the well-trodden, still rock-paved roads would definitely think about a bike which can really take a beating.
Well, that’s sweet but it’s wrong, as the 2015 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS No Compromise offers a really neat travel package but is not offering proper “no compromise” wheels. Riders who want a good deal for a liter-class V-Strom will maybe be thrilled to learn that €13,990 ($18,150) will get them hard side cases and their mounting racks, fog lamps with dedicated mounting brackets and color-matched paint, heated grips, hand protectors, a lower bash plate, a center stand and crash bars. And the same cast wheels which CAN’T take harder roads, with rocks and obstacles.
Oh, and you get special decals for the limited edition black livery, even though they will not add any serious, real adventure worthiness to the bike. For what the bike is offering, including electronically-adjustable suspensions, ABS, traction control and all, the price is right. But the No Compromise tag still makes me laugh. What’s next, Highway Adventure?
