After much teasing and a marketing campaign that would put to shame much bigger names, the Jaguar F-Pace SUV was finally unveiled in full with hours to go before its worldwide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
So what are we dealing with here? Well, things are looking good, especially from the outside. Following in the footsteps of the XE and XF, the F-Pace does seem to adopt the same styling, especially in the front.

The headlights look similar while the entire front end was done in such a way as to make the F-Pace the leader of the segment in terms of aerodynamics, further aiding in dropping fuel consumption figures.

Step inside the cabin and it feels like an entirely different beast, definitely not a Jaguar. You’ll have to excuse us, we might still be under the influence of the F-Type we tested last year and that car made us feel rather claustrophobic. This time, there’s plenty of space and light inside the F-Pace, seating five adults in comfort from the looks of things.

According to the Brits, the legroom and headroom for the rear passengers should be segment leading, while the 650 liters of space in the boot, with the seats up, match those of its closest rivals. Things go up to 1,740 liters in total with the seats folded. By the way, the second row does fold in a 40:20:40 manner if you want it to do so.

Four zone climate control and a standard 8-inch screen for the infotainment system should make things cozy. If that’s not enough you can go for a bigger, 10.2-inch screen but either way you’ll have to deal with the InControl or InControl Pro infotainment systems.

Standard features include navigation, wi-fi hotspot, USB charging ports, 12V charging ports and a 12.3-inch HD display that plays the part of the instrument cluster.

What’s under the bonnet?

Getting down to the technical details, you’ll probably want to know that the F-Pace will be using the same aluminum chassis as the new XE and XF which means it should be quite light on its feet (no official figure was provided for now).

This brand spanking new chassis will be joined in ‘holy matrimony’ with a couple of carefully picked out engines that should rival the offerings from Germany toe to toe.

The entry-level choice will be a 2-liter diesel Ingenium mill with 180 HP and 318 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque that can be had with either a manual 6-speed or an automatic 8-speed unit. If you go with the manual, you can have your F-Pace in RWD guise, but the latter transmission choice will require all-wheel drive.

Moving up in the range you’re greeted with 3-liter V6 engines, one using petrol and one relying on diesel to get around. Both of them use all-wheel drive and the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The petrol choice is the same as on the F-Type V6 S, a supercharged beast that puts down 380 HP (375 BHP) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. With this new powerplant, the F-Pace can reach 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

On the other side of things, the drivers out there looking for more torque will be glad to learn that the diesel 3-liter V6 has 300 HP and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. This unit is claimed to return 47.1 mpg (6 l/100 km). With those specs, we don’t believe this to be a real number, for the real world.

For now, only the UK pricing has been revealed, the cheapest F-Pace being the diesel 2-liter version with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox at £34,170. For that kind of money you get heated electrically adjustable leather seats, 18” alloys, power tailgate, parking sensors, navigation, wi-fi hotspot, split folding seats in the back, Hill Launch Assist/Descent control amongst others.

The rivals of the F-Pace are the Audi Q5, BMW X3 (facelift) and the Porsche Macan and, truth be told, they have some reasons to be worried. We’ll show you more of the F-Pace from Frankfurt as soon as we can take photos of it later on this week.
