Some know this bike as the MSX125, while to others only the name Grom rings a bell. Regardless of how you prefer to call it, this nifty Honda monkey bike cannot be overlooked. And to make things even better, the house of Tokyo decided to offer the Grom in no less than four color options, from the sober blackened livery to the fun-seeking bright yellow. Other color schemes include a white and a red one.
The Grom is a new interpretation of Honda’s older “monkey bikes” but this machine is an all-modern project, loaded with the latest technologies and for that matter comparable with pretty much anything in its segment. Whether looking for a beginner’s bike or for a fun, inexpensive and economical commuter, the Grom is one of the worthy alternatives to riding a scooter. That is, provided you’re not a very tall and heavy person…

Small, light, and punchy equals fun

Okay, some riders would not be caught dead riding an 125er, but if you can get over such prejudices, the Grom is a truly sweet two-wheeler. It is indeed small, with a 47.2” (1199 mm) wheelbase and a seat height to match it. Your rear parts will hover 29.7 inches (75.4 mm) off the ground, thanks to the 12” rims, so a firm foothold should not be a problem, even for riders with a shorter inseam.

The bike rolls with a 31mm upside down fork and has single hydraulic disc brakes. Power comes from am air-cooled 124.9cc SOHC single with PGM-FI fuel injection, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. A2-compliant (Europe) and tipping the scales at only 225 pounds (102 kg) ready to ride, Honda Grom is ideal for youngsters, too. The price for the 2015 model year is not known yet, but we can guess it will not deviate too much from the $2,999 (€2,595) the previous model sold for.
