It was in 2011, right after the Evoque came out, that we realized Land Rover was going to change as a company. They adopted the identity of a maker of luxury vehicles with concept car looks and crisp interiors.
Don't get us wrong, it was only the first step, as the company still makes some very ugly models. One of the ugliest Rovers still in production was the Sport. Criticized for being ugly, too brash and not very good on the road, the Sport was finally retired after eight long years.
This new one, which has just entered production as a 2014MY, is a beaut' from every angle. Gone are the christmas lights, the stupid grilles and body cladding, replaced with curves that we'll probably still love 10 years from now.
Now on sale in America from $63,500, the Range Rover Sport is cheaper by a massive $20,000 than the full Range Rover. Imagine what you can do with $20,000! For instance, you could buy a new set of wheel, not because you've scratch the factory ones, but because somebody makes something you really like.
Take us, for instance. We really like the Vossen Wheels design called CV4. Kid you not, we really like them. They call it a double concave design and have placed a set that's 22 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide on this white Range Rover Sport.
Warren Henry Auto, a large Florida car dealer, collaborated with Vossen on this project. This just shows dealers have to be more open to giving customers what want to pay for, not what the factory sent them.
