The car, which is set to hit the market next summer, will reportedly be wearing a price tag of 8,500 euros for the base level variant. The 2-door model will measure 3.45 meters in length and is part of the company’s plan to offer small models, with a low fuel consumption, that can fit in almost any parking space.
When it will go on sale in the summer of 2011, customers will be able to choose from several powerplants, including a 1.0-liter 3 cylinder engine developing 60 horsepower which will be joined after the launch by a 1.0-liter TFSI 4 cylinder engine developing 85 horsepower. Moreover, according to the German media, the 2012 Volkswagen Lupo will also be offered with a three-cylinder 1.2 TDI diesel engine developing 75 horsepower.
After the launch of the 2-door version of the 2012 Volkswagen Lupo, the company also plans to offer a four-door version, which will be slightly longer. The German carmaker also revealed it hopes to sell around 600,000 units of the new 2012 Volkswagen Lupo each year.
Volkswagen is also planning to launch the E-Up model soon. In fact, as we reported back in February, the car will likely enter production in 2013 and will be based on the electric concept displayed at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. However, Volkswagen will consider the E-Up a niche product as the German brand is still considering that electric vehicles are only able to bring slight sales increases.
