Priced from $30,995 for the Laredo trim, the new Cherokee is powered by the new 3.6l Pentastar V6 engine, developing 290 horsepower. Additionally, the Cherokee also packs the 5.7l V8 engine, developing 360 horsepower.
The Pentastar engine provides an 11 percent improvement in fuel economy, allowing for 23 mpg (10.2 l/100 km) and more than 500 miles on one tank of gas. On-road dynamics are improved by the use of a new independent front and rear suspension systems and a new body structure which increases torsional rigidity.
The official production launch of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee takes place today, Friday, May 21, at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant, during a ceremony attended by CEO Officer Sergio Marchionne and Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.
When it goes on sale, the SUV will retail, as said, from $30,995, which is $465 less than the equivalent 2010 model. The 2011 Grand Cherokee will be available in three trims: Laredo, Limited and Overland. The Limited 4x4 starts at $39,995, while the top-of the line Overland starts at $42,995.
