The extensive facelift of the W212 generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the most expensive, if not THE most expensive mid-cycle refreshes in automotive history.
We're not sure whether that is the main reason for all the attention that the model has received in recent months but the car sure brings a wide array of new automotive technologies for a car that is only a facelift and not an entirely new model.
The Fast Lane Car guys went to the official launch of the car in the United States and got to test drive the new E250 BlueTec model, which is the smallest diesel that the E-Class has ever received on the North American market.
As we mentioned in the earlier E250 BlueTec 4Matic preview of a road test, the four cylinder bi-turbocharged diesel under the hood has only 2.1 liters of displacement and yet it delivers 195 Imperial horsepower and an almost truck-like torque of 500 Nm (369 lb ft).
The under 8 seconds acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is nothing to be ashamed with, but this engine's best asset remains its fuel economy and low-speed city driving comfort. TFL were also impressed by the new driving-aid gizmos present on their test car, but we'll let you watch the full video review in order not to spoil the surprise.
