It's getting harder and harder to be a BMW fan these days and today's spy video proves it. Remember all the rumors surrounding BMW's upcoming X1? Rumors that we hoped weren't true?
Well, we finally have proof that the new X1 will be using the UKL platform, that is currently known around the world by one acronym: FWD. That's right, the new X1 will be front-wheel-drive and we have it on tape.
Our spy photographers caught up with the prototype BMW is testing around Nurburgring and filmed it as it was smoking rubber with the front wheels. Had enough yet? Hold on, there's more!
By the sound of the car as it was spinning its front wheels (oh God, that sounds awful!) we presume it was fitted with the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine, another interesting piece of news.
Whilst the reviews of the B38 engine family were positive and we do like the performance it achieves (like in the i8, for example), the X1 deserves a more powerful engine. It will probably have some other engines too but they might be a bit underpowered too.
So, what do you think about BMW's plans with the X1? Will it prove to be a successful move? How much does the drivetrain matter to you when buying a car?
