Zero Motorcycle Starts Asian Expansion

After it announced European expansion in June this year, Zero Motorcycles announced that it is ready to further expand into the Asian market, by signing a partnership with AMPLE as the brand’s official distributor for both consumer and fleet sales.

AMPLE is a global marketing and distribution company focused on the electric vehicle market. Its mission, the company says, is to bring together the world's best electric technology partners, institutions and governmental bodies with "the goal of ensuring a global reduction in emissions."

"Zero Motorcycles and AMPLE share a common goal of expanding the electric vehicle movement globally," said John Lloyd, VP of World Wide Sales of Zero Motorcycles. "With AMPLE's marketing and distribution efforts, consumers in Asia will now have the opportunity to test ride and buy the high-performance Zero Motorcycles product line locally."

All three models (Zero S, Zero X and Zero MX) will be available at the Singapore and greater Asia AMPLE locations, where customers can go and test the electric motorcycle technology. Each motorcycle runs on a Z-Force technology power pack consisting of high performance, light weight lithium ion cells.

The Zero X was designed for technical trail riding, while the MX is destined for track riding and jumps. However, the Zero S (Supermoto), which uses a lithium ion array and is mainly built out of fully recyclable materials, is the one that highlights the range.

However, fully-electric motorcycles are not flawless and seem to have problems, just like the conventional motorbikes do. Recently, Zero Motorcycles issued a recall notice concerning its 2009 Z and MX models, which seem to be having a problem with the throttle mechanism. It appears that throttles can become disconnected or stuck in the open position, resulting in a loss of control and cause serious injuries to the rider.
