This weekend saw a very special race car come to life in Italy, as Zagato, one of the country’s top coach builders, has presented the TZ3 Corsa at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

The creation celebrates 90 years of collaboration between Zagato and Alfa Romeo and is also a tribute to the two companies’ 100 years of common racing pedigree.

The TZ3 is built around a mono shell carbon fiber tubular chassis, which is coupled to a tubular frame and an aluminum body shell. This allows the 4.3 m long, 1.9 m wide & 1.2 m high racer to tip the scales at a performance-guaranteeing 850 kg (1874 lbs).

At the heart of the vehicle, we find a 420 hp 4.2 liter V8 powerplant, which uses dry sump lubrication and allows manual adjustable calibration. The unit is mated to a six speed sequential gearbox, pushes the race car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 3.5 seconds and offers it a top speed in excess of 300 km/h (187 mph).

The exquisite project has received the support of two high profile partners: OMP has developed the suspension, WRC carbon fiber seats and carbon fiber steering wheel for the vehicle, while Pirelli has supplied a set of 18 inch slick PZero tires.

The race car was commissioned by the German Alfa Romeo Zagato Collector Martin Kapp.

The TZ3 Corsa is not a design exercise. It does not take inspiration only from the 90 year collaboration between the two brands, neither only from the Milanese conjunction between Alfa Romeo and Zagato. The TZ3 Corsa is a race car, honouring 100 years of races and victories across the whole 20th century,” stated the press release.
