If you ever dreamed about traveling across the United States in a specialty vehicle of iconic status, now’s your chance. Heinz’s Oscar Mayer is looking for Hotdoggers, which is what they call the drivers of their famous fleet of Wienermobiles.
The Wienermobile is a vehicle with an 84-year history, so don’t laugh off the responsibilities of a Hotdogger based solely on the silliness of the position title. In a job posting, Oscar Mayer notes that Hotdoggers must be able to drive and maintain the historic vehicle during a year-long trip across the United States, stop for “meat” and greets, engage in promotion on social media, and do a variety of events.

The position of Wienermobile driver is a paid one and covers just one year. It is ideally suited for college grads residing in the U.S., willing to work holidays and spend their time either driving or sleeping in hotels. Two such drivers are needed for each Wienermobile on the Oscar Meyer fleet, so that would mean 12 candidates will be chosen. All of them will be trained at the Hot Dog High in Madison, Wisconsin, before hitting the road.

The first Wienermobile was created by Oscar Mayer’s nephew, Carl G. Mayer, in 1936 and roamed the streets of Chicago. There have been several iterations of the iconic, wiener-shaped vehicle, with the current one featuring a 27-foot (823-cm) fiberglass body and the chassis of a 2018 Isuzu NPR truck, with a GM 6.0-liter V8 engine producing 330 hp.

The horn reportedly plays the Wiener Jingle in 21 different genres, the seats are ketchup-and-mustard-colored and have “meat belts,” there are condiment “stains” on the carpets and oversize Wienermobile fixtures on the dashboard. The “bunroof” offers seating for fans during parades, so there’s that extra possibility to consider as well.

As of 2017, Oscar Mayer extended its Wienerfleet to include a Wienerrover, a Wienermini, a Wienercycle and the Wienerdrone, which you can see detailed in the video below. This current job opening refers only to the iconic Wienermobile, though.
