Yamaha Unveils 2011 Apex Snowmobiles

Yamaha fans will be glad to hear the manufacturer launched a new range of snowmobiles for winter sports enthusiasts and bikers who put their motorcycles to sleep during the cold season. The 2011 Apex SE and Apex X-TX snowmobiles offer enhanced performance and handling, while introducing a number of world firsts.

Both snowmobiles come equipped with a new generation of the Genesis four-cylinder engine, which delivers improved peak power and torque thanks to Yamaha’s EXUP (Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve) technology, a world first. Originally developed for Yamaha motorcycles, EXUP improves torque characteristics in the low and mid rpm range.

New 38mm exhaust pipes are the final part of a completely modified engine flow. A new air-box, with longer intake funnels, is mounted
on redesigned injector bodies.

Handling and overall stability are also improved by the chassis configuration, restyled ergonomics, new skis and a new lightweight aluminium frame.

The Apex SE and Apex X-TX also showcase EPS (Electric Power Steering) – the first system of its kind on a snowmobile. The system monitors running speed, engine rpm and the rider’s steering action to calculate the optimum level of steering assistance – provided by a small electric motor powered from the battery.

The trail of the skis is increased by 15mm on the Apex SE. Extrovert drive wheels secure the propulsion of the track in all conditions. The Apex X-TX is equipped with crossover wide skis. As with the Apex SE, the track is propelled by extrovert sprockets.
