WSBK Shane Byrne Gets a Harley-Davidson

World Superbike racer Shane Byrne got himself a new ride for when he is away from the road circuit. The 33-year-old British rider, however, decided to get something a lot different from the Ducati 1098 that he competes on, and bought a Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special.

Byrne, often known as Shakey, currently rides for Team Sterilgarda and lies ninth in the WSBK championship standings. He purchased his Night Rod from Warrs Harley-Davidson dealership in London.

“Shakey had the use of a demo Night Rod a few months back and fell in love with it,” Warrs’ Fulfilment Supervisor, Martin Szlagowski, was quoted as saying by MCN.

"We mentioned about fitting some personal and tuning parts and a deal was agreed. I guess he feels he gets all his speed and hard cornering intake on the track and just wants something stylish and safe when he’s at home. I tend to think he’ll be back for new footpegs way before the first service interval,” added Szlagowski.

Of course, Shakey wasn’t satisfied only with the bike’s standard equipment and opted for some aftermarket parts as well. These accessories included black control levers and a Reinhart 2-1 full length exhaust system, just part of the Stage 1 tuning kit supplied and fitted by Warrs. In addition, upgrades included a K&N airfilter and an ignition and injection reset to suit via a Screamin’ Eagle Super-tune.

Harley-Davidson’s Night Rod Special is just one bike in the American company’s liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin VRSC range, and retails at £12,880.
